It also stood as the tallest building in the city at the time of its 1974 completion, and held that distinction for four years until it was surpassed by the 709-foot (216 m) 555 17th Street in 1978.

The tower is located on California Street on the edge of Chinatown, and not far from 555 California Street. 650 California is visible from every direction except from the southeast, where the Financial District skyscrapers block the view.

666 Fifth Avenue is a 41-story office building on Fifth Avenue between 52nd and 53rd Streets in New York City. The Tishman family via Tishman Realty and Construction built the 1,500,000-square-foot (139,000 m) tower in 1957. It was designed by Carson & Lundin and the building was called the Tishman Building. One of its most famous exterior features was the prominent 666 address emblazoned on the top of the building. The other distinctive exterior features are embossed aluminum panels.

Developed in 1991 by South Figueroa Plaza Associates, the building contains approximately 1,025,000 square feet (120,773 m) and a three-story Italian marble lobby. The exterior is clad with sculpted white metal and glass. The tower is adjacent to the 7+Fig Shopping Center and currently owned by Maguire Properties.
