About Discovery Tower

Hess Tower is a 29-story skyscraper located adjacent to Discovery Green park in downtown Houston, Texas. It was formerly called Discovery Tower until Hess Corporation leased the entire tower in January 2009. It is the 30th tallest building in Houston and was completed in May 2010, 26 months after construction began in March 2008. Occupation of the building should begin in June 2010. At the time of completion, it was the tallest building to be built in Houston in 7 years, after the Reliant Energy Plaza was completed in 2003. The Hess Tower is a project of Trammell Crow Company, a real estate development and investment firm, and Principal Real Estate. Marshall Strabala, Director of Design at Gensler global architectural firm, was the building's lead designer. He has said that, “The attention to detail, design and finishes that are being implemented in this project are truly a first of its kind for Houston.” The building is expected to earn its Gold LEED Certification for its sustainable design. Among the “green building” features are 10 wind turbines placed on the roof to generate wind power.
