About Leland House

The Leland Building, 400 Bagley St., Detroit, Michigan, (formerly known as "Ramada Inn Downtown Detroit"), is a high-rise tower. The tower was constructed in 1926 and completed in 1927 stands at 20 stories in height. The building has 9 elevators, and 120 units/rooms. The Ramada Inn Downtown Detroit was used as a hotel, apartment building, and restaurant, along with some space for commercial use. Operating under the Ramada name, the building contains 150 hotel rooms, 120 apartment units, as well as Leland City Club (a well known gothic themed nightclub) and Labyrinth (another gothic themed night club in the basement). In 2007 the Ramada name was dropped, and the marquee now reads "The Leland". As of March 2009, The Leland has only 35 hotel rooms, as it is undergoing a renovation and conversion to market rate apartments. It was designed in the Beaux-Arts architectural style by the Chicago firm of Rapp & Rapp, using mainly limestone.
